    1. There are many variables to take into account when choosing a bonding technique for PDMS – different applications call for different techniques.
    2. What does “curing” involve, and what effects does it have on the device? Also, how many devices of each bonding type were tested?
    3. Is there any other way to test the bonds besides applying pressure in the way that the authors did? If so, that would make a good presentation.

    1. There are many methods to bond layers of PDMS together to create a microfluidic device; modifications to the base/curing agent ratio can be made, as well as using our method of oxygen plasma or corona discharge. All are pretty reasonable methods, with bond strength varying depending on the method used.

    2. The paper didn't go into too detail about how it determined bond strength between layers using the pressure inlet. Is this really the best method, or are others commonly used. If the pressure inlet is in the middle, will it effect bond strength readings? How many trials did they do for each category?

    3. Why different base to curing agents mixtures affect the bonding of of PDMS.

    4. What other methods of PDMS bonding has VIIBRE done. We of course use oxygen plasma, and using the microwave was done by Matt (i think).

    1. More methods for bonding outside of the standard plasma bonding.

    2. What is the main difference between corona discharge and plasma? (Vaccuum aside) Do any of them delaminate over time? As in after a few days, just fall apart without any pressure being applied?

    3. A look into which which methods are the best for our projects, and how they can be added to our work

  7. 1. There are several methods for bonding 2 layers of PDMS together when creating multi-layer devices.
    2. What does the corona discharge entail? Is it still the same chemical process of inverting the OH groups to make it hydrophilic?
    Advantages and disadvantages of each bonding method according to experimental objectives.

    There are an array of PDMS bonding methods, including alternatives for PDMS-PDMS bonding that are fast and inexpensive.
    Can you describe Xurography?
    What method is most used now? Impact of this research paper.

    1. Learned: There are many methods to do PDMS bonding. Different methods will produce different results. With different experiment needs, each method has its own advantage and disadvantage.
    2. Pressing: How was the bond strength determined? What is corona discharge?(More detail please). What is the overall goal of this research paper besides give a summary of several common PDMS bonding techniques.
    3. Presentation: Tabulate advantage and disadvantage of each techniques, give the optimal experiment condition for each of them.
    4. Thoughts: Have anyone tried other bonding techniques besides the one we are using right now? Why we using primarily only one method for PDMS bonding?

    1. All the methods are suitable for microfluidics, but partial curing and uncured PDMS adhesive techniques are the simplest and cost-effective.
    2. Did future work by this lab show their use of these techniques over oxygen plasma bonding? Or did they just do this out of curiosity?
    3. How much time does each take and what are the complications involved?
    4. Have we tried any of these methods, especially with the rotary pumps?

    1. There are many feasible methods to bond multiple layers of PDMS, each varying in usage cost effectiveness and bond strength

    2. If the best strength is seen with 15:1 why is that not the most commonly used ratio? Does the stickiness make device fab. harder, and would cells stick to the device?

    3. Maybe a presentation on how many layers some other devices use and why

    1. Of the 5 methods used for this research, all were just as effective in terms of microfluidic devices but certain ones are more cost effective than others.

    2. Are there any techniques not addressed by this research that might be better?

    3. Presentation comparing the techniques in constructing a cell trapping device from the SyBBURE lab
