    1. ESI-IMMS can be used to study the change in metabolites caused by changes in the body, possibly leading to earlier diagnosis of health problems.
    2. I don't understand what's going on in figure 3. What are principle component analysis score plots?

    1. By coupling IMS and mass spectrometer, one can analyze the changes in the mesenteric lymph metabolites which can help in early detection and prevention of chronic diseases in humans.

    1. IMMS is a good analytical technique, when coupled with statistical analysis, to study the changes of metabolomes in response to external stress
    2. What is the significance of "positive" and "negative" mode? Do they attract the oppositely charged ions?

    1. ESI-IMMS is an effective method for measuring and monitoring metabolite changes. This is clinically significant in order to discover the onset of diseases such as diabetes.

    2. I'm having a hard time interpreting the graphs for each metabolite component (carbohydrate, etc). Why would it matter whether the MS was in positive vs. negative mode.

    3. Is metabolomics actively being pursued today? Is lab work of this kind being used in a clinical setting to diagnose such diseases as described?

    1. Learned: IMMS is an excellent technique for detecting and distinguishing different ions in a sample.
    2. Questions: (1) What are the positive and negative ion detection modes of the IMMS? Do they correspond to opposite directions of the applied electric field that accelerates ions through? (2) What are PCA score plots?
    3. Presentation: Does this paper present the best technique currently available for achieving its stated goals?
    4. Thoughts: Is anyone currently employing this technique as part of his or her research?
